La Voyager Inc · Mattawa, ON · Full-time
ABOUT THE ROLE
We’re a small-town Thai fusion restaurant in Mattawa, and we’re looking for a cook who actually loves what they do. You’ll be working in a tight, collaborative kitchen where your ideas matter — from perfecting our pad see ew to experimenting with fusion specials. If you grew up eating or cooking Thai food (or are seriously passionate about learning), we want to hear from you.
WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING
– Prepare and cook a full range of authentic and fusion Thai dishes, including curries, stir-fries, noodle dishes, soups, and rice plates
– Cook specialty Thai dishes such as pad thai, green/red/massaman curry, som tum, and tom kha using traditional ingredients and methods
– Prepare mise en place — chopping, marinating, saucing, and getting all components prepped and ready before service
– Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workstation in line with food safety regulations throughout every shift
– Monitor portion sizes, food costs, and waste reduction to keep the kitchen running efficiently
– Receive and inspect deliveries of produce, proteins, and dry goods — rotating stock properly and flagging anything that doesn’t meet quality standards
– Collaborate with the kitchen team to keep service running smoothly during peak hours
– Contribute to seasonal specials and fusion menu development when the opportunity arises
– Follow all HACCP and provincial food handling guidelines at all times
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
– Proven experience cooking Thai cuisine — you know your galangal from your lemongrass
– Valid Food Handler Certificate (or willingness to obtain one before start date)
– Ability to work in a fast-paced kitchen environment, including evenings and weekends
– A positive, team-first attitude — ego doesn’t belong in a small kitchen
– Attention to detail when it comes to flavour, presentation, and food safety
– Secondary school diploma or equivalent (an asset, not a dealbreaker)
NICE TO HAVE
– Experience with fusion or cross-cultural menu development
– Background in professional kitchen settings (restaurant, hotel, catering)
– Familiarity with dietary restrictions and ability to adapt dishes (gluten-free, vegan, allergy-aware)
WHY JOIN US
– Small team means you’ll actually have a voice in the kitchen — no getting lost in a brigade
– Opportunity to grow with the restaurant and shape the menu over time
– Mattawa is a tight-knit community — great for anyone looking to slow down from city life without giving up good food culture
– Accommodation available nearby (details provided upon offer)
